About TCC
Our Mission
Founded in 2012, the mission of Topeka Cello Collective is to transform experiences of amateur cellists by music performed and to unite in a common goal of bringing joy to others through music.
A Letter from our Artistic Director
The Topeka Cello Collective (TCC), launched from a mission to create an atmosphere of fellowship for young cello students. Tumultuous periods of a young musician’s life can promote disinterest and eventually cause that student to give up playing music altogether. I created TCC to guide young students by giving them technically challenging music, and the encouragement needed to succeed in life.
When I began organizing small groups of cellists to play arrangements, this idea quickly grew into something bigger and more beneficial to the entire community. Soon, music directors from local middle and high schools encouraged their students to participate. Combined with the Washburn University cello studio, TCC has grown into an ensemble of 40 members, offering two groups for middle and high schoolers, and community members, who play a minimum of three concerts per year.
It takes many hours of time and effort to organize a program appealing to the performers and audience. All music performed is transcribed from original compositions. Each concert includes at least 15 selections. On top of weekly rehearsals, I create video tutorials for students, hire guest performers and sound producers to boost sound quality, create a professional environment for students to learn, organize venues with rental costs, create program notes, and promotional material. Now that TCC has transformed into a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, I have the flexibility and means to create more impact through my level of expertise.
As Artistic Director of TCC, the dedication I put forth comes back to me when I witness the transformation of individual cellists. Young and timid players turn into confident musicians and individuals. Despite social challenges that all students face, TCC is a place where students can share the love of music with others and be part of a community. With your support, TCC can continue to provide unique opportunities to young musicians and expand our reach to others that may need a helping hand.
Sincerely,
Erinn Renyer
